Top Ten.
Since 2003 YPA has published a Top Ten Preservation Opportunities List as a way to engage the broader community on noticing those historic sites that seem to be forgotten. But these places deserve our attention, and more often than not they sit in transitioning neighborhoods and can contribute to the needed economic revitalization that needs to occur. Start with the historic asset, we always say, to get a good handle on restoring the health of a neighborhood.
Speaker Series.
Our Speaker Series is a dynamic event that explores new solutions for ongoing problems; problems like saving abandoned churches, how to preserve historic hotel buildings, how to navigate through historic nominations and tax credits, and much more.
Historic Happy Hour.
It’s been said that adult beverages taste better when surrounded by history. To test this hypothesis we invite you to join us at a historic pub or tavern to discuss our findings and to enjoy the grace of each other’s company.
Painting for Preservation.
Master painters Cory Bonnet and Bob Huckestein join us on location as we sketch, draw, watercolor, or paint endangered buildings and locations as a we to demonstrate their importance to our region. This technique is called “plein air,” from the French. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Some instruction will be given. Supplies are also plentiful.
