Education for Action.

YPA provides tools so young people can save and maintain their history. YPA provides events, tours, research, training, technical assistance, and special projects like Preservation Podcasting and book publishing that encourage the next generation to take a leadership role in preserving their communities. Since 2003, many thousands of individuals have participated in our public programs.

Education is hard-wired into our mission. All of our preservation activities are expressed through the idea of Young Preservationists in Action.  We work to connect to the real life experience of our high school students and to meet them where they are in their lives. Their own self-dignity is an important tool to teach how historic preservation can matter to them where they live, and how if an old building in their neighborhood is restored, the entire community can be uplifted. Empowerment is the major thrust here, and the very tools that conquer blight can bring a safer living experience for them and their families.
