what we do
Preserving it Forward.
Preserving it Forward is to say that YPA works to renew the past to serve the future. The need for affordable housing can be met, for instance, by restoring vacant houses in historic districts such as in Hamnett Place in Wilkinsburg. The need for revitalizing blighted business districts can be met by restoring historic assets as foundational anchors and corner stones, and places to establish cash registers to serve customers.
YPA upholds its mission by providing the following:
Advocacy.
“Somebody should do something” is where YPA comes in to be a voice for the community and an advocate for preserving any threatened historic asset. We take our role as stewards of the architectural legacy of our region very seriously. If you know of any site that is threatened, please reach out: info@youngpreservationists.org
Consulting.
YPA’s services are available to municipal leaders, out-of-town developers, and individuals who are seeking a guide and a partner to help navigate all of the twists and turns of restoring historic buildings. We have the best people in the business at our reach and we welcome all inquiries to see how we might help you to Preserve it Forward and fix what is broken.
Education.
Educating young people on the importance of historic preservation and how they might be empowered to lift up their voices to contribute is the most important work that we do. We open ourselves up to educators who would like to partner with us in this endeavor and we welcome all inquiries for potential collaborations.
